Brodit mount fitted with minimal faff. You do have to remove the head unit to loosen the dash mount screws to allow enough flex to slide the clip in. So that's a success

On the failure side the Gaptech install was a disaster. Put it in, double checking wire connections and used scotch bloc connectors. Checked with a multimeter that I'd got a good connections. Press the key button three times and down goes the roof. Lovely. Press the close sequence. Silence. Press the roof buttons on the panel. Silence and no lights. Total panic sets in. Double check the wiring and connectors, all good. Take it out and all the buttons come back to life *phew*

Contacted Gaptech to see if it can be tested (it was sold to me as under warranty) and once that's done I'll be selling it. I can't be arsed with it.

Cup holders next after a spot of lunch. Although the sun is shining so I might bin it and go for a drive.
 
Yep, although I have access to a garage about a mile away so I could have got her under cover. I'm a bit pissed off about it to tell the truth. Got the Brodit and cup holders in though, so that'll do for now.

After fitting, the GapTech module seems to need a short period to initialise - at least it did on both of the units I've fitted as nothing seemed to work consistently for the first couple of minutes then it all started to come to life.

Some of the issue may have been down to the ScotchLock connectors - bloody things are liable to cut through wires and often don't provide a stable connection - I did a write-up on installing the GapTech using bullet connectors which gives a much better connection and allows easy removal/re-installation of the unit

I left it connected for a good 15-20 minutes while I went through the connections with a meter. Tbh I've had enough of it. I can't be doing with stuff that doesn't behave as expected and now I'm going to have to re-insulate wires etc.

I'm properly annoyed at it. If it turns out to be faulty so be it, but I'm not refitting one. As soon as I've heard back from Gaptech I'll get it checked and/or replaced then sell it.

To be fair, the first one I had turned out to be faulty but it was replaced quickly and the replacement has been fine - you imply that you got yours second-hand... perhaps it was sold because there was a problem with it?

To my mind, people like Gary and Simon Allen (Intravee) who produce small-volume products that add functionality need to be supported and we can't expect the same degree of reliability/quality control from a cottage industry as we can from a large company.

I think that the functionality provided by the GapTech module is great and I'd urge you to get Gary to replace it and give it another chance - you say that you've got to reinsulate the wires so why not just crimp some bullet connectors on them as that will serve the dual purpose of repairing/insulating the wires and allowing you to quickly connect & test the replacement module - then, if you don't like the functionality, you can sell the replacement.
 
I bought it from another forumite who assured me it was working and under warranty. I've sent Gaptech a pm asking if i can get it checked out.
