Stripping 108's

Ok, so I'm not tight, but I believe in getting value for money, so rather than fork out £360+ to have my 108's refurbed, I've come up with a plan...

Was passing a local powder coaters yesterday in the car, so popped in and spoke to him. He had a quick look, and said he could do the wheel/star in any colour for me, for £25 cash each, ie £100 all in... BUT he said his blaster would only remove the corrosion, not the paint (he's tried before) so I would need to get them chemically stripped first..

So, anyone got a clue as to where I should be trying? I was thinking those door stripping places? I'm in St Helens, Merseyside BTW..

I've used wooden door stripping services before with great results, however the process was in my opinion very crude.
Don't know what was used, whether it was acid or caustic soda or something similar, but some metal hinges were left on the doors and certainly all the paint was removed and the metal was left with a blackened surface.
I wouldn't have trusted this guy with any of my alloy wheels.
However if you google 'paint stripping services' you'll find someone in your area who can help. Based on a cost of £15 to strip a wooden door, I would have thought it would be around £10 a wheel or less.
Problem as I see it is whether the chemicals they use for doors etc could potentially harm the alloy.
Equally I would have thought there is a sand (or other) blasting technique that would remove the paint.

I would go to your local auto supply, anywhere they sell touch up paints and auto body chemicals.
In Canada that's Canadian Tire or NAPA, but there are many retailers.
They should supply paint stripper in spray cans and tins.
Look to see if there are disclaimers on the instructions against use on aluminum / brass etc.
And if one product looks good, then give it a try.

I have used them in the past. Some are water soluble and I would recommend them cause you can just hose them off.
Wear gloves, paint it on thick, watch the paint bubble ...Scrape with a nylon scraper, hose off and repeat.

That's my 2 cents , but then I'm cheap.

I would not recommend keeping a bottle in your Zed to take revenge on a door dinger.
That never ends well.
