Strange throttle response e85 bmw z4 05 3.0l

I have just purchased a Z4 3.0l 2005 model and already love driving the car. I have one slight concern with the engine rpm when accelerating hard, If you give it a touch of throttle for any real speed change the rev's climb quickly by maybe 1500rpm-2000rpm then drop by approx 500-1000rpm before building again. (Sport mode off) Car pulls away fine and it always seems the same amount of rpm change so i dont think (hope) its not the clutch. Is this normal on a manual 6speed 3.0l with sport button, or could it be the clutch? Any idea's would be great. Also any other owner tips with the car would be much appreciated!!

That sounds very much like clutch slip to me, the revs climb as it starts to slip then as it grips the revs fall again :(
Are you sure your foot isn't depressing the clutch slightly after you've changed gear?

Clutch slip will mostly appear in 5th or 6th gear at around 3krpm, where torque is highest for continous time.

Check if you dont have a really clogged up air filter. Maybe your MAF isnt 100%.

I presume you've completed the shift and depressed the clutch before you give throttle.

Forgot to ask if the revs climb without a corresponding rise in speed? That's a giveaway for clutch slippage.

Thanks for all the replys! Yes fully changed gear and released clutch pedal fully also happens when just accelerating. Strange thing is it doesnt always happen if you put your foot flat to the floor though. Speed seems to increase also... I didnt want to split the engine/gearbox and find it was something else. Will try and get more accurate info. Otherwise I'm loving the car!

check and see if there is a CDV valve still attached to the car. If you are quick like me the CDV will absolutely f**k your shifts.

Its gotten much worse definatly the clutch, just ordered a Valeo clutch kit inc pressure plate and thrust bearing from euro car parts. Anything else that's essential for this job? See something about the clutch bolts are one use only?? Will remove the CDV whilst doing the clutch.

You have the valeo kit with single mass flywheel or a valeo kit for the normal dual mass flywheel?
If you have the normal clutch (so a SAC clutch) then you need a special tool to center the disc. With a sac clutch you cant center the disc with a normal clutch tool.

The valeo kit for a Standard dmf set up. Will have a look online for an alignment tool. Anybody have a part number or website to purchase one? Cheers
