Strange thingy in boot.

I am not 100% sure, but i think it is part of the ski carry system.

If you have the ski carry through load system, where there is a bag to protect the interior when you open the hatch between the seats and pass your skis through from the boot. This part then clicks in at the very rear of the boot to hold the end of the skis in place.

I tried to find a picture of the system working on google but I was not successful. Maybe another member has a picture of it in operation that will make it clearer.

Edit: Found some pictures of the Ski load system and this part in action on a German forum: https://www.zroadster.com/forum/threads/ski-set-skisack-skitraeger-f-bmw-z4-e89-zu-verkaufen.108297

Looks like that is what it is, ski support.

I live in Glasgow and drive up to the Scottish ski slopes (when we have snow) with my skis in the z4. I don't have the ski carry system, I just remove the shelf's from between the seats and pass my skis though in their carry bag from the boot.

You do get some funny looks in the car park when you arrive roof down and proceed to remove the skis from the boot :D .

Must be a e85?, I can't imagine doing that in a e89.. would be quite hard in mine to do that

Need to put the roof up to get the skis out, but I am doing that anyway as it will be sitting in the car park all day .

ah, I understand now, you take the shelves out of the ski hatch, not the shelf interior trim, which would be a massive amount of work and not very nice with noise etc.. :D

FWIW, I am a clays shooter, and I find the ski tunnel and hold downs perfect for my long shotguns. Cased and broken down O/U guns aren't an issue, but my Auto guns are better thru the tunnel and keep the fenders from denting outwards when the gun shifts in the trunk!

Do you turn over post offices at the weekend :D

I haven't got up to that bit in my owner's manual yet, and wondered what that part was. Working my way through it, finding all sorts of interesting tid bits. Who knew you could turn off the heated seats by holding the button? I always just thought you toggled through the settings (off, 1, 2, 3, off) - not that there's much difference in the time it takes...

Had a nice surprise this morning, was going to take my girlfriends Civic to go flying rc sailplanes but thought I'd try the z4 for size. It fit like a dream, YAHOO.View attachment 1
