Strange oil patch

A few weeks ago i had left the car on the drive for a couple of days without moving it but whan i did move it to put it in the garage i noticed what looked like an oil patch underneath the car but towards the rear of the car.

To give you a bit of a layout of the drive my drive slopes downwards towards the front of the house so the car was facing nose down so since the patch was towards the rear of the car it could be either coming from the diff or a leaking shocker but not sure.

During the week the car is kept in the garage on a flat surface and so far no oil patches on the garage floor.
So can you guys give me any help or an idea to what it could be

ps i have checked underneath the car but can't see evidence of anything leaking so i'm bit confused and also a bit concerned

Was it actually oil?Often water drains out of cars when parked at angles. Aircon, rainwater, etc.

If it was then I'd be looking at the propshaft entry point to the diff and the 2 driveshafts each side of it.

Unlikley shock absorber and it if were the shock and around it would be very wet with oil before you saw it dripping.

Next time put a large piece of cardboard unerneath with weights so it doesn't blow away and see what drips onto it and from exacly where. Then you can trace it back along any run line to the source

Cheers CJ never thought of the propshaft entry or the drivedhafts,but it does seem strange that there is no patches on the garage floor when it is parked up for a week.

The two days it was parked on the drive there was some quite heavy rain so whan i saw the patch under the car i put it down to runoff from the car but it didn't dry out.

That would have been the case if it was the ex wife,but the GF i live with now is not that type of gal

Well the car is off to the dealers tomorrow to let them have look will keep you posted as to the outcome.

For sure - hence the last line of my post referencing tracing run lines. Rarely does oil simply drip unhindered from source to road.

Should be ok for the meet,i've taken it to my local dealer Coopers in Durham.

The latest on the leak is it's not coming from the diff area but coming from the gearbox,they reckon it's either a failed gasket or a warped sump(worst case senario).anyone else had this on an auto box?
They will check the tolerences on the sump to see if it is warped if it is ok they will just replace the gasket and refill with fresh oil. fingers crossed

And also whilst i was there the salesman was trying to lure me with the fantastic offers they've got at the moment on a E89 and even showed me one with the M sport upgrade
