Strange electrical issue

Today I was driving the car when the seatbelt warning chime went off (both belts were fastened). At the same time I noticed that a lot of the other electrics also went funny - only the sidelights would come on rather than full headlights, the roof controls weren't working, and the indicator wasn't making the tick noise (but the lights were flashing). It was still doing the same after being switched on and off. Disconnecting the battery a couple of times and restarting eventually seems to have cleared it back to normal but does anyone have any idea what might be causing this sort of problem?

How old is your battery, a failing battery can give some weird errors.

Sounds weird Omar. I'd get it checked out obviously. You been in any extreme situations recently (wet, cold etc) or is this completely random?

Should have mentioned that the car has been stood for quite a few weeks - today was the first proper drive since all the snow etc so perhaps some water or condensation got in somewhere. The battery seems pretty strong - started instantly despite the time standing and the cold etc but will get it tested asap to check its putting out the right voltage.

That sounds like the culprit. May have started but sounds like its not happy battery wise so check voltages and try to give it a good run out. Recommend a trickle charger too if you can practically manage it.
