Strange cameras

Last Thursday several temporary cameras were spotted along the A30. The next day they had gone. They were small oval shaped with what looked like two lenses behind the front glass. Body case was white / grey colour. Some were mounted above dual carrage ways and some I saw at 5' off the ground attached to road signs. Any ideas? :?
