Straight Pipe Exhaust options?

MIJ did all the pipework for my custom system. Set of guys who know what they are doing (especially when the customer knows exactly whet they want too :) ) and only company I could find locally with the skill to help me.

Created me a fantastic quad tail, dual pipe system that has just the right noise, no performance degredation and used my supplied brand new ///M rear boxes.
Stainless pipe is a work of art and has a resonater deleted. They even retrofitted me the ///M heatshields I insisted on for completeness

Personally I'd avoid overly loud as it's just a pian attracting unwanted attention, droning and tiring aside the od time you want to use it

Here it is going in:

I don't think they'll be ready to just swap it for free, as they already custom built it.

I think the problem comes from the fact that the boot acts as a sound box which resonates too and amplifies the drone. Also the fact that the cabin is acually connected to the boot through the soft top well makes it worse inside. In that sense do you think that Dynamat or SoundX will have any positive effect reducing the noise?

You have to really wath out for somethings when it comes to drone. Drone is a very low frequency so to really stop it u need really hevy materiel to break the vibrations. since nobody wants to add a lot of weight to the car. i suggest really to think about this product, since in my opinion dynamat and soundx wont give me satisfaction to what i need.

in their graèhique u can really see that the product is made for deep frequencys imo i think u would benefit more from it

Still think you need to speak to MIJ. They tell you it's 'mid sports' and presumably that there would be little drone. Tell them you're disappointed and see what they offer to do. Replacing the back boxes is quite easy even on a welded system, it's profiling the pipes and balancing the system that takes up the time.

Well, this weekend I took a trip to Car Audio and Security and got a Dynamat Trunk Kit for just about 90 pounds. Took the whole afternoon to strip the trunk from panels, upholstery, wires, modules and battery, then to cut templates, cut the dynamats and finally stick them on. I did the entire bottom of the trunk.

Took a 15-mile trip and the drone seemed softer and not as irriable. The great sound at the high rpms was still there.

On Sunday I did about half of the trunk lid before I ran out of big whole pieces of dynamat. Took a 20-mile trip and the drone seemed maybe a bit quieter.

This morning it was even quieter. I can now actually hear the tire noise and some cabin panel rattle when going through pot holes (now what's better - drone or rattle?????). I don't know if this is just the exhaust still breaking in as MIJ said or the extra dynamat, or both, but the result seems to be there.

I'm wondering if should continue with the dynamat. Maybe at least finish the trunk lid even though right now only I've covered only the back of the lid where the two closing grips are, and it looks ok. My only concern is that the dynamat is exposed so a) not sure about looks when I open the lid and b) sharp edged luggage cound actually tear it. Has anyone covered theirs with fabric? Should I also continue with the trunk wall and under the seats, or that would be a waste of money with no actual improvement?

Danny, this all seems wrong somehow :o You pay hundreds for a sports exhaust, it drones so you spend more money sound proofing the boot, maybe the rear wall and floor  Did you speak to MIJ because this thread isn't really doing their reputation any good and I wonder if you have givern them a chance to sort this out?
