Stolen Number Plates

Just a word of warning to people in general not really Z4 related.

I washed my mums Hyundai Getz this morning and put it on the road (right outside our house) to wash the Scirocco.

While I went in for lunch some thief came along and ripped off the front and rear number plates (held on by double sided stickies from the manufacturer)!

I know z4's dont have sticky plates but just FYI.
 
The police may well be round in the next few days asking why you drove off without paying from a petrol station. Get it reported.
 
And keep written reference number, happened to my wife on her old car a few months ago.

Pulled over & checked the once, but then all quiet.

At least it was a no damage crime, but know how you fell
 
You have to be really careful because what thieves do these days is find a car with the exact same spec as yours, then steal the plates and run it. Therfore all speeding fines etc go to you. Get in touch with the police and the dvl a get a new reg so your safe. Happened to someone at work, its awful although now the police and dvl a recognise it, but at the time it was rare and they wouldn't believe her that she was on holiday abroad and her car tucked up in a garage while at the same time getting a speeding ticket near London... She had to get all documents out to prove she was away and the car was where she said it was at the time.
 
Happened to a mate of mine in his golf.... As mentioned as long as you mentionit to the dvla and police and keep fuel receipts for a while (very useful proving your location if you get any fixed penalty notices) you will be ok.

In his case someone with his plates actually stole petrol and the police had his ref on file.... So warned him.

Less likely to happen to the Z as its a rarer car.
 
Like the man said, report it immediately and get a reference number - then get a new number issued .........

some scrotes really aren't that smart - a friend of mine was filling up with fuel when he saw some lads pull in to fill up with fuel - on his number plates that had been knicked months previously ........ obviously he informed the lads politely and asked for them back ....... I'm thinking that the window for using stolen plates deterioates rapidly with time..... :D
