Sticky Steering and failing Hood Motors

Does anyone know when during the production rum they were fixed, was it when the facelift occurred?

Don't believe the roof motor has ever been fixed? IIRC the changed the design of the housing on the roof motor in the facelift, but it is still prone to blockage and failure. Why the motor is in such an exposed position is a pretty bad design.

I thought the facelift had a slightly revised motor design that included shrouding the motor in plastic?! I guess the drains are as prone to blocking as ever though.

I also seem to recall that a modified steering column meant that sticky steering was 'fixed' on the facelift.

Steering column was fixed in 2005 model year before the facelift already.

My Golf's hydraulics for the roof are in the boot well out of the day, and is now 21 years old and going fine 8)

On the facelift they added more packaging around the motor so it takes longer to be destroyed.
