Sticky bonnet release?

Tried penetrating oil which works for a few weeks bu then the problem returns

Seems to be the spring in the mechanism that is jamming

Don't want to be left unable to open the bonnet!
 
let me know how you sort it

I sprayed some silicon lubricant in and it worked for a year or so

A permanent solution would be nice
 
Mine completely stuck last week, had to have someone push down on the bonnet while I pulled the release.

I took it off, cleaned and greased it up, still doesn't feel 100%

The next time it goes ill get a replacement.
 
Had the same problem and used anti sieze spray grease on the left and right catches just behind the front panel. Last thing you want is for the bonnet to stay shut!
 
mine is intermittent, it always opens but wont shut again! bloody thing

i would say it needs reomoving and all the crud shifting out and then a regrease with LM or similar
 
I've experienced this.

Seems if u don't pull it hard enough first time & doesn't release, where no amount of further tugging the lever will open it.

However, press the bonnet down where the locking mech is, then go back & give a stronger sharp tug - this has since worked 100% every time, though am worried one day will break it...
 
The catch on my z4 was bone dry when I bought it and was sometimes difficult to open so I applied some copperslip and could instantly feel less resistance when pulling the release lever.
