Steering wheel vibration

I have a slight vibration in my steering wheel at motorway speeds. I've had wheels re balanced and my tracking sorted. A slight reduction after balancing but it's still there.

I also have steering wheel shudder under hard braking which as been diagnosed to warp disks. Could this also cause the vibration at motorway speeds?

(Looking at £550 for new from disks and pads, fitted using genuine bmw parts.)

Yes (I think :? ). A warped disc is laterally imbalanced. While not a substantial deviation in terms of off centre mass, at motorway speeds it's conceivable it is enough to cause palpable vibrations. That's my theory at least.

Warped discs are VERY rare...... Brake deposits on the disc are more common..

My fronts have a fair lip on them too, think replacement might be the way forward.

Car as only done 22k miles, from the history I doubt it's seen any track use (owned by a solicitors wife).

I tried all sorts trying to eliminate a vibration / wheel wobble over 60mph. Through process of elimination, I worked out the shocks were shot. The car had been on lowering springs which killed the oem shocks. Literally. No rebound in the rears and the fronts had blown their oil all over themselves. Bilstein shocks plus eibach springs and all sorted, ride much better, no bottoming out etc. worth a look at your shocks.

Well, the size looks right and the price is good. Don't see why they wouldn't be ok, worth a punt.

Check all the front bushes as well Popey - not looked at the thread linked above, but I have posted before about a similar issue on my car. Turned out to be a very, very worn front control arm bush that was allowing a lot of movement under braking. The movement had affected both front discs and pads, so they had to be changed too.

Worth having a good look because if the bushes are worn then the problem will only come back.

Just to update, the brake parts from GSF are Zimmermann.
