Hi guys i've just replaced my roundels with the full carbon fibre roundels, the only one i have'nt done is the steering wheel one as i could do with some advice from anybody that has replaced there's. i'm not sure how difficult it is to remove the original steering wheel badge, or is it just better (safer) to just place the new roundel on top of the old. cheers :)

I have removed mine and replaced it with a CF version.
It basically a bent metal version that is held in with three prongs. I snipped those off and siliconed the new one on top and it worked just fine.

I would however urge caution for 2 reasons - firstly your messing above an airbag so I'd disconnect the battery first and secondly if the airbag deploys later in an accident, then you'll be eating a roundel that could cause injury if it flies off the wheel. You need to be sure if you want to take that risk !!!

cheers for the advice  it was actually the pics of yours that set me off & i bought them off the same person aswell

i think i'll take the plunge as it would look more oe. i'm guessing you just ease the badge out and then snip the prongs, is that right? also what are the tools you used. many thanks daz :)

You would be gutted if that actually did happen after an average accident, that caused no other injury except a BMW badge to the face!

I can't remember it clearly, but I just cut it to bits with tin snips and then cutters to get the lugs close to the black plastic. They were a bit tricky to cut right back flush.

Glad my write up was of value :D

Yes Mr W - hence my warning and disclaimer. Still as an off roader I've been hit with harder than a roundel
