I would like some advice on which steering wheel lock would be suitable for my 2010 Z4. Does anybody recommend which one would be best as there are loads but I don't know if they would fit the car..................thanks

Hi ozzy,

Do you mean something like a Stoplock for the wheel?

http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_storeId_10001_catalogId_10151_productId_186179_langId_-1_categoryId_165565

I bought one of these but it doesn't fit as the steering wheel (M Sport) is too small for the bar to thread through the spokes correctly, it says on the fitting guide fits all Z4s so I guessing its the old model and not the E89. It does fit my Z3 though :)

I can't remember if I started a similar post when I was buying the Z4 and got laughed at as a waste of money etc. But I wished it fitted as the way I look at it its a deterrant and anything that takes someone more time or stalls them taking the car has too be a good thing.

Thanks Tim..............just what I was thinking................may be worthless but may just put somebody off.............

I'd suggest that anyone that knows how to get round the security system on a modern bmw would also know how to remove a steering wheel lock... so I doubt it would put anybody off......

I think anything is better than nothing IMHO, end of the day it's upto you if you want to let your car be taken freely.

When you consider most modern car are stolen with the key or key clone the need for a steering wheel lock becomes redundant. Given the connectivity on the cars these days there is the added detergent of being able to track and disabled the car remotely.... I think bmw offer this anyway....

Ive had a 4Tress steering lock for about 6 years. It fitted my e92 coupe, fits perfectly on my E89 sDrive 20i and is Thatcham 3 approved. Its also reasonably small and fits in the passenger footwell.

Being Thatcham approved its guaranteed to resist attack for a certain number of minutes ( I cant remember how many ) and as someone mentioned, it wont stop the most determined indefinitely, but the idea is that it will cause enough inconvenience that they will look elsewhere.

Costs around £50 ish
