Steering wheel control options?

Hi folks,

My roadster suffers from the usual degrading of the steering wheel control surface coating... looks OK but bugs me when I drive the car.

Now I appreciate my options are replace (might degrade again and £500 option), recoat (never seen a decent OEM match, no offence) or Carbon Fibre (a bit chavy/shiney?!).

Any thoughts on this? Suggestions welcome!

Did mine in Matt black (spray can) looks pretty good for a half hour DIY job I reckon

That does look great to be fair!

Hmmm haven't seen that before. May have a look and test on some other plastic bits first.

got round to doing mine, its not liek OEM but looks fine for me.

I will say to put them back on you do need to unclip airbag. and if you dont want to scratch bottom piece rear remove the wheel.

The bottom spoke i have a slight mark as something landed on it in yard and the M badge just needs sticking back on

+1. Did you take the M badge off and refix it or just mask it?

Thinking of doing mine but reading the other posts it seems that the Plasticoat wears off quite quickly. Will have a bash with the rubberised Halfords enamel.

But it is never ending. This month I have spent over £100 on small odds and sods, like new bolts here, new bump stops for the bonnet where the spring had gone, a missing screw, a bit here a bit there...!!!

And it's Silverstone Classic this weekend, so always a busy few weeks making sure the car looks it's best!

Mine need doing when I get my Zed back, interested to see what that halfords stuff is like

mine was the halfords stuff, it leaves a slightly textured feel (soft) but i decided to go over it with some matt black i had.

the over all look and feel its almost like the hard leather on the zhp gear knob

I removed it mate. I used a square Stanley blade like you get for windows & Stuff. Never made a mark, and then just re-applied with a bit of superglue, cant tell now & Is still the same depth in the recess as I left the adhesive foam on it.

Any reason why you went over the halfords stuff? Dont know weather to bother with that or just go for a normal matt black paint to start with?

What about the mf buttons do they come out or did you have to mask over them somehow?
