Steering problem

Hi all

First post on here, as I try to slowly resuscitate my neglected Z4.

It's a 2003 2.5i. In the last few year's it's not been driven very much, but I've recently started to update bits, e.g. got a service done, new discs, pads and calipers.

When driving I've noticed that the steering is a little erratic. It does not respond smoothly - I may turn it a few centimetres before it responds. The speed I'm driving at doesn't seem to make a difference.

I did a search on noticed some posts on a sticky steering but I'm not sure whether this is the same thing.

Let me know what you guys think. Thanks!!

You tend to get sticky steering in hot weather,ie when the car has been sitting out in the sun.Yours sounds the steering needs checking for wear.

Hi,
I've just had this problem on my Z4 and it has now been fixed. My car is a 2013 model but the research I have done shows that this problem has been around a long time and people suggest all sorts of things to fix when it might be the electric steering motor faulty. Talk to ECH Testing ( https://www.ecutesting.com/ ) they can help you identify the fault. See my post to see what the answer was.
