Stealers Dodgy Tyres

Hello All.

Had the Z for a few weeks, few minor issues that dealer has fixed but love her. However, whilst stuck in traffic on the M3 on Friday night the low pressure indicator comes on...seems to drive ok so continue to the service station, add some air and drive on.

Take her to Kwikfit the next day, there is indeed a tiny puncture which cost £26 to repair. However, the installer noticed that I have run flats on the front, and a mix of dunlops on the back. There happens to be a BMW dealership up the road from there so whilst the tyre was being fixed I went along and asked whether an approved used Z4 should have been sold with non-runflat tyres. Apparently they would never do so and if they did the customer has to sign a waiver...

The aftersales manager of my dealer is supposed to ring me tomorrow morning...he best install two new rear tyres (and give me the dunlops to keep :) ) for free or I will not be very happy.

I accept that runflats are not great from a handling/ride point of view but I feel cheated by the dealer. Anyone else had a similar experience or know anything on the subject? Thanks.

Get the new RFs from the dealer, then sell the 4 RFs on ebay and buy two new Dunlops (or a complete set of whatever non-RFT) for the front.

AFAIk you're right to thik the stealer shouldn't sell without rfts. When I wanted to trade in my 120 without rfts they knocked off £700 to put rfts back on as they said they couldn't sell it without. Good luck.

Thanks guys. I have now heard back and they are fitting two new tyres on Saturday (for free)...good but they should have checked to begin with!

Sticks, I think you and I own the same car...very nice!

Good news. It's often the case that tyres aren't properly checked. I bought an Audi and found a slow leak. Week or so later had it checked and it had 2 punctures. Likely at least one was there before IMO. Car valet chap used to work for Audi and said if tyres went flat on the forecourt they just kept pumping them up.

Yes, v similar Zs, and yes, very pleased with mine too. Mine's an 04 and a beige interior as I was looking for somethingg a bit like my old TVR.

I expect this kind of behaviour from a non-franchised dealer but it reflects so badly on them. The aftersales team are very good, but you realise why second-hand dealers have such a bad rep!

Beige would be nice, black does feel dark with the roof up.

That's what I thought but a black car with a black interior is more purposeful perhaps. You'll just have to put the roof down more :D Some pics here
