Start up issue after running

So..My trusty Z ///M fires up ok and after a good run of a hour or more i stop, say for fuel. When i start her up it takes about eight to ten turns before she fires up. This happens randomly and only once the car has been running. Can anyone tell me what they think the issue and fix is?

Not happened to mine buddy
But it sounds possibly like maybe a starter issue?

As if engines hot it increases resistance and makes it need more power to start so if any bushes worn etc this will zap power

Just a thought :)

Don't get that, how is there more 'resistance' when the engine is hot?

Thermal conduction

The parts of lets say if is starter,
The starter will be hot from engine temp.
The battery will be warm, it's leads to starter also

The power needed to then use starter and put current into it and utilise that current to produce torque for the starter to spin the flywheel is increased as heat causes resistance

Therefore if any weakness in the starter, ie worn bushes, this will increase demand on the electrical current to start, of which is already weakened by heat resistance and the starter can only accept a certain amount before can't function
Yet when cold no problem as little or no resistance so full current hits starter

As most car companies don't heat shield starters

Or maybe low compression
 
But wouldn't that mean you would hear the starter struggle to turn over? If it's turning over strong as it usually would but just not catching then it can't be that?

But poster, hasn't given any noise/symptoms
Other than takes 8/10 tries to start

Ie could be starter/coil pack/ vapour lock/ flooding by leaking injectors/ dirty-faulty maf sensor/coolant sensor or even crank sensor :)

If poster could give more details????

It's a random one but maybe the ignition switch. Had problems with my one. Can pick one up new for about £25 and it takes 5mins to fit.

What the dawg said ^ but with hot engine starting issues I'de usually start with the fuelling issues first (including a lazy pump)

I had this, where mine would turn over but not fire. Turned out to be the ignition switch. Mine was easy to identify when it wasn't going to start. With the key in position two there were no ignition lights. Picked up one from Quarry motors for a tenner and been fine since.

worth checking and even changing just to eliminate for pennies.
 
The problem was my key. It seems that the key was having problem communicating with the ECU. I change the key over to the spare and the problem has gone.
 
That is exactly what I had with my 740. Swapped keys over and never had the problem since, never bothered replacing the key as it just became the spare key.
