Anybody else notice this on their Zed...(2003)

The front of the airbox fits into a short rubber housing, taking air from the front of the car.
Whenever I replace the airbox lid it pulls the airbox backwards, tugging the tube at the front of the airbox out of the rubber housing.

I've adjusted the tubes and airbox mounts but I still cant stop it happening...a longer tube from the airbox to the engine would solve it.
I dare say it doesnt do much harm but I'd be happier knowing there was cool air flowing through the filter :|
 
Never noticed, but next time I pull the bonnet up I'll have a look and see if I can see anything untoward.
 
What he is talking about is the that the can air box dislodge from no. 11, the bulkhead grommet.

When playing around with your air filter, the airbox can dislodge from the grommet in the bulkhead. Once you slide the airbox back into the bulkhead grommet, everything is fine.

Mine has never slide back out...

Managed to get the various bits together...eventually.
Just gone back out to have a look and guess what, its popped out again :headbang:

I'm having one of those 'moments' with the Zed...rattles, thumps and air filters :cry:
Ahh well, ordered a full set of EBC grooved discs and green pads today.
 
Just checked and mine is really well seated. No way it can be made to come loose.

Looking at Shipkiller's reference diagram I suggest checking the mounting bolts '8' to see if they are correctly adjusted and can allow the box to slide forward a little

There is no rearward pull from the rear hose at the back so I'd also check this is all correct and noone hase made some odd mods.
 
I remember having to fix this one on my previous 2004 3.0, once fixed it never came out.
 
Yay, another reason to go pop the bonnet and look knowingly under it :P

Good to check these things as I bet that makes a bit of difference to intake air temps!
 
I've had another crack at it....still pops out.

Tried slackening the two bolts and realigning the box but as soon as I
attached the lid it pulls the damn thing out of the grommet.

Just checking-
Coming out the 'back' of the box is a plastic tube with some convolutions (these are fully stretched on mine when fitted).
This runs straight into another hose (2 big jubilee clips) and this hose runs into the injection system - there's a secondary smaller hose running up out of this second hose.

Is there a piece missing???????




On the positive side the new filter makes a difference:
nice "fffffft" as I press the throttle and pickup is much sharper....not bad for £12 :D
 
Make sure you do not drive to quick at first with those EBC discs and Green stuff pads not good cold had them on my old car.

As for the air box took mine out when giving the engine bay a good clean and popped back in fine.
