SSS V32 and VMware mallarkey

Evening All - I bloody hate computers :cry:

I recently bought an OBD lead off eBay with the DIS, SSS and TIS software. The installations were tortuous but I eventually got there and all was well...at least, for a little while. For reasons best known to itself, the SSS V32 guest now won't load because the screen resolution needs to be a minimum of 1280x768. My little laptop (a Samsung NC10) has a maximum screen resolution of 1024x600 but all worked fine originally. I then tried to use a monitor with a higher resolution and got it to work after a lot of frigging around but now get similar 'resolution too low' regardless of how high the setting is :? Oddly enough, DIS works fine - same virtual machine, same resolution but is it different format-wise to the SSS guest?

Any help on this one would be much appreciated :thumbsup:

One other VMware related question. I gather installing VMware tools improves graphics and mouse control no end. I don't have a CD drive on the laptop but I did manage to create an ISO image file from the VWmare tools .exe off the VMware website. When I try to install the software, it maps the drive OK, it says 'VMware tools installing' on the bottom bar but nothing happens thereafter :?

Any help on this one would also be much appreciated :thumbsup: :thumbsup:

It's not the quickest thing in the northern hemisphere and I did have to double the RAM but it does the job :thumbsup:

If you've started the VMware Tools installer from the vSphere client, all that really does is map a (virtual) CD drive to the virtual machine with the VMware Tools software on, so open a console on the VM, navigate to the CD drive and run the installer executable. Once the install has completed you'll need to reboot the VM and then the install of VMware tools will show as completed.

I don't have a physical CD drive though. Is there another way to point the 'Install VMware Tools' command towards the .msi installer on my desktop? I thought by creating an ISO image and mapping that virtual drive, VMware would have 'seen' that as the installation CD and Bob would have been my auntie's live in lover...but it appears not.

PS - no joy with the Resolution Manager widgit either. Found it and installed it OK, adjusted the resolution to 1024x768, fired up SSS, got very excited and then utter dismay when I got the now familiar error meesge concerning incorrect resolution.
 
just looked on the vmware settings in DIS and you can have :
640 x 480
800 x 600
1024 x 768
1280 x 1024
1280 x 1200
160 x 1200

I guess the SSS settings are different starting with a minimum of 1024x768?

Someone else suggested reinstalling SSS as some of the settings can get baked in during the original installation. That doesn't explain why it worked OK originally though :headbang:

The software I mentioned was pre installed on the NC10. You can download it from Samsung's Website

Found it yesterday, downloaded it and did the installation. Set the resolution to 1024x768, got really excited followed by utter dismay when I get the same 'incorrect resolution' error message.

Might try a clean SSS install.
