SSS - So near yet so far?

I purchased the BCables.com dignostic cable and installed the software. I have successfully run INPA, so can only assume the cable is OK. However, I got it for SSS and NCSExpert to customise the car's coding. I decided to start with SSS - it loads up OK but when I try to start a new session it fails to initialise. SSS runs on VMWare which I don't really understand. I'm pretty sure the program is running fine and that its something to do with communication with the car. I have tried various things suggested in other forum posts, like setting up the COM1 Port on the PC and allocating enough virtual memory. I'm just stuck now.

Is there anyone out there who has successfully overcome this who can give me some suggestions?
