Squeaky seat!

Fine on smooth roads, but once I get on bumpy roads and start bobbing up and down there is a fairly load squeak from the back base of my seat (ie, the pivot point from horizontal to vertical back it seems)

Is there a common squeaking issue around here, or a failure point or anything? It's starting to drive me mad... wasn't there at first but as I have tweaked my seat to the ideal position it seems to have started. Moving the seat around lots then reverting to my preffered position hasn't made it go away either :(

Do you have your seat all the way back on the base and reclined as far back as it will go. If you do then it will be the back of the seat rubbing on the centre console. Mine use to do this on the passenger side and drove me mad, i now have it 1 click forward on the base and enough space behind the back to fit my hand down.

Pretty sure there is no rubbing against the back of the transmission tunnel/centre console areas.

It's literally under my arse... I'll have to try put the seat right forward, and up etc, with the roof down, and clamber under as much as I can and spray around with some PTFE lubricant stuff on the moving parts.

60k miles car so it's maybe some worn bearings/hinges squeaking a little?!

Hmmm, seems to be the plastic housing the seat base sits inside. I dropped the rear base of the seat half a cm or so and it just disappeared.

Must be some rubbing going on somewhere between the seat and it's actual base, so I'll have to see. Wasn't sure I liked it that bit lower but after 10 mins I actually think it's a better position so have put it to memory 3 for now :)

Thanks

The base (squab) mounts into the frame by 2 hooks that lock onto metal pegs on the frame. The front is then held down in place with 2 torx.

The hooks are covered in a small piece of plastic tube that prevents squeaks. I'd check that those are both in place, else you'll have a real squeak.

If that's OK then I'd be looking in between the plastic trim on the outside edge and the frame. This is just cosmetic and bolted on the outside of the frame.

Unless you find it by chance this is one thing I'd pull the seat out to investigate. Use the motors to drive it back and forth to get to the torx bolts then disconnect the battery before the airbag/motor harness

I had this on my 04 Z4 and i removed the seat removed the seat cover and and greased the plastic spring mounts with coppaslip. stopped all of the squeaks.

remove teh battery lead before disconnecting the seat harness and bobs your uncle.

ps my E92 335d has just had teh same job done under warrenty at the dealers.

Hmmm, sounds like I just need some of that ptfe grease stuff for the seats then, may as well give all those squeaks a treatment as it'll clearly be a wear point in the longer run... may as well rectify it now :)

Also going to do the roof hinges a bit I think... just as a preventitive measure :)
