Squeaky Clutch

Hey guys,

I've had for a few months now a squeaky clutch. I had a look around early on and concluded that the noise was coming from the clutch housing itself so was beyond my diagnostic skills ;)
Anyway I had the Zed in at the dealer for an oil service on Monday and asked them to check it out. The technician confirmed that it was coming from inside the clutch housing and was extremely likely to be the internal clutch fork. Obviously getting at this is a massive job, requiring removal of the clutch housing. My service manager quoted $1000 to do it and said if they were going to open it up then one might as well replace the clutch as well (and I do agree) for the best part of $800 (although I can pick one up for about $250 shipped). His recommendation: turn the stereo up and ignore the squeak

While I do appreciate his being refreshingly realistic (for a dealer), the squeak is really irritating. I've always left the car in gear when parked (that's how I was taught), so the first thing you hear before starting and last thing after stopping the engine is this awful creeeaaaak. :(

I did have a look through the TIS and indeed the clutch removal is a massive, intimidating job, even for the moderately mechanically competent car enthusiast like myself! But I figured I might as well check in with the rest of our E85 gurus here and see if anybody had any alternative suggestions?

Thanks!
