Squeaky back end...

Good day,

I recently bought a Z4 with very low mileage. I noticed that when I get out of the car, or in it, the rear back squeaks. I took it to the BMW dealership, and they have told me that it’s the rotors, the car has low miles and have been sitting for too long. The rotors have rust accumulated, which is normal, and I need to drive it more and it should all rub out. Its been 3 weeks and the squeak is still there, very annoying.. Is there a way to get rid of it?? Some sort of solution? Again its nothing more than the rotors..
Thank you!

If the rotors were rusty enough then the rust will have embedded in the brake pads as you used the brakes. :headbang:
Simple enough to fix. Take the brake pads off and resurface them with sandpaper (medium coarse) to remove the embedded rust. Stick the sand paper to a hard flat surface (concrete floor works nicely) and rub the pad back and forth on it till you see a fresh surface. Make sure you hold the pad level with the surface to avoid an uneven finish. Give them a cleaning with brake clean (spray) and let them dry. Also, scuff the surface of the rotors with sandpaper to remove any left over rust and glaze.
Hope this helps.

BTW: Bad idea to breath the dust from the pads! Wear a respirator if you have one if not a damp bandana will stop the majority of the dust.

I appriciete it!! I am due for a state inspection, and while it is under the knife I will ask if they can do that for me...
Thanks again for your time!!

If I remember correctly this is often caused by the handbrake pad rubbing. There was a fix for it but I never bothered about it and just got used to the squeak.

X2 - try not setting the handbrake and see if the noise is still there. I get this same sound from both my Z4 and my wife's X3 - in both cases only when the handbrake is set.
