Spray tinting rear lights - surface preparation?

Possible silly question but bear with me...

I intend tinting the amber section of my spare rear lights over the weekend - I've got Etech red tint plus some lacquer on standby. However, there's no mention of how best to prepare the surface of the lens before spraying.

Am I best to just clean it up properly using isopropyl alcohol?

Or, should I lightly wet n dry the surface to roughen it up and give the spray tint something better to stick to?

My intention is only for enough coats to redden the orange without adversely affecting the colour of the light output.


I'm like to hear what method others used and what results they gave. I realise not many have tried this, but quite a few have sprayed the completely clear rears to end up with a quad spot setup.

I used the same spray in the past, just cleaned the area with alcohol wipes and it was fine. The alternative is to use red lense repair tape, easy to apply and easy to remove if needed.

The lights I bought came with film already on them but it was too thick to allow ANY amber light to show, even with green bulbs. So I've removed it and intend trying spray tint instead. No idea what brand/make the film was but it sure as hell resulted in illegal lights lol.
 
I've got Halfrauds tape and the light flashes dark orange with an orange bulbs, enough to contrast with the brake lights
 
I'll bear that in mind if the tinting is a failure. I (think I) know the stuff you're talking about - sold in a pack of 3 different colours.
