SPORT BUTTON (again)

A late reply but I'm new here :)

In Sport mode my 2.5i really shifts, quick!

Without the 'Sport' button pressed it's noticeably slower on the uptake.

Sport button does make a difference on throttle and steering but it's how you drive it, if your mrs daisy them you won't notice much. If you have a heaven right foot then you will Defo notice the difference. Mines alway on but mines remapped and makes a bigger difference.

My sports button works - hell of a difference in accelerating. But someone told me that when pushing the button you should take foot off the throttle for a second. Dont know whether or not this is true but you could give it a try.

Until you release the throttle the more responsive response doesn't come into effect. When you turn it off it is effective immediately and you can feel the drop in power as the same throttle position delivers less.

Just to clarify what you should be expecting from the E85 sport button it won't unleash a beast or give any performance gains at all. It only does two things on a manual, it speeds the throttle movement so makes the engine 'feel' more responsive (although it isn't) and reduces power assistance to the steering weighting it up. No exhaust flaps or noise changes, no engine mapping changes, zero power gain, no suspension changes. That said you should definitely feel the difference particularly in steering and if there is none I'd be checking wiring connections etc as mentioned previously to eliminate the basics.

On an auto or SMG box it also improves the gearbox responses. Other BMW group models now include some or all of the other features in sport but on the E85/6 manual it's a placebo button and wonderful man toy.

The attached technical files explain all the CAN BUS links and much much more (It's a Latvian site but browsers should auto translate)

Sport button plus the Wak box mod. awesome sound.

Paul

I googled 'Wankbox' to see what it is and the results were very wrong. Then found a Wakbox involves using holes in places they shouldn't be for noisy cheap thrills. So both involve some sort of illicit gloryhole and have no place in a Z4

Noisey cheap thrills lol! Not like taking the foam out of the sound generator then! coming from the Tt forum this mod was proved to work better than a K&N cone filter. The induction noise is only heard on full throttle and it's not silly loud. great foc mod.

Only kidding, I'm sure it's a great mod. I used to do something similar on bikes to make them sound more sporty when I was younger 8)
