Spent the day sorting out the Z - Seats, Roof, Headlights

When I bought my Z I had a few jobs that I wanted to do but mainly sorting out the tired looking drivers seat!

I actually had the stuff ordered to do it before I even picked up the car but not had a free warm weekend with the car as some plonkler scraped my rear and so been without it... Anyway here's some before pics of the seat condition

And after a good bit of graft

Was only planning on touching them up but once I started prepping them I decided they were bad enough I may as well recolour the whole seat.. They aint perfect but I am really pleased with how they came out especially as a first attempt....

If I was going to do this again I would take the seats out of the car first as it would be much easier, I'l also get an airbrush to apply the colourant and sealer as its a bloody nightmare trying to get it neat with the sponges, and there were a few bits I had to strip back and re do

This job was speeded up with a hairdryer but still quite a bit of waiting time between coats for it to dry so I managed to get the roof cleaned and conditioned. I used Mr Wilks' trick of mixing some shoe polish in with the conditioner and I have to say I'm impressed with how it worked sorry forgot to take a before pic

Also sorted out the headlights where they were starting to mist up only slightly but I gave them a bit of a polish with the formula one headlight restorer I got for my old Z forgot the before pic again but this is what they look like now

All in all a productive day, pleased with the improvements I've made to my Zeds appearance

Looks a very neat job. I am re doing my drivers seat as i first did it and it ended up rubbing off (put on to thick) so have rubbed them down again just to get them half decent for Zedfest. I am getting both of them professionally done in a couple of weeks time. Just make sure you give them plenty of time to cure and dry before sitting in them.
Did you use a sealant and if so did you apply that with a sponge also ?

Yeah sealed em with the sponge, that was a bit of a nightmare too to be honest did the first layer too thick and had to strip two of the panels and start again...

I was worried about applying the colour too thick but found a tip online to dilute 50/50 with water and do more coats which seems to have worked


Yeah leaving it 24 hours before driving, which is getting because I want to take it out on a run to celebrate

When i first did mine i sprayed it on in the car. Masking off was a nightmare, but i managed it. If i was to spray them again i too would take the Seats out. Got a price off the furniture clinic to redo them for £420 but they need me to remove seats and deliver them to their workshop. I have found a guy who reckons he has been doing it for years and can do them in the car without any trouble and will do it for £140 a seat. The bonus is he will come to me and do it at my house so it can cure properly.

There's a bloke in Halifax who I've used a few times through work and his prices are very reasonable but fancied having a bash myself.. Hopefully it'll stick
