Speaker wire into doors?

Hi guys,

Does anybody know if there's any easy way to get speaker wire from the cabin into the doors? For example is there any space in the existing door connectors/rubber boot?

I've tried searching, looking at photo's etc. but found nothing decisive.

Cheers :)

The door sare already wired for speakers so you could use that connection/loom inside the door

To add extra wires I fitted thin wires to drive my door light (inner and outer handles and puddle) by adding a new pin and new socket to the respective halves of the door loom connector. You can get these from BMW and could do that if you can accept thin connectors and prepared to work at it, but I'm a perfectionist though :)

You may just be able to thread a thicker wire inside the rubber boot on each side and work around the connector, else zip tie wire onto the underside of the rubber loom, but won't be neat

Adding a new pin could be an option, it's only for tweeters so massive gauge wire isn't really needed. I don't want anything on show so it'll have to be in the rubber boot or connector somewhere.

I'm not at home at the moment to actually have a look. Cheers buddy.

cj10, so on the standard sound set-up it's just a case of getting the door cards off and fitting some speakers? No wiring at all?

Is there any special knack to removing the cards on a Zed?

(questions, questions - sorry  )

No - that's not really what I said as fraser was asking about tweeters and for those the door is already wired and ready with them fitted. For extra speakers you'd need to run extra wires into the door or use the tweeter feed.

fraser - I hear you on wanting thicker wires. I would get around that by checking the pin use in the door connector and possibly using 2 pins in each directinon. That would give you plenty of conduct capacity, given that a single pin is enough to drive window motors or door locks.

When i upgraded my audio i had to cut a hole in either side of the connector to run a cable for my tweeters which i mounted in the mid speaker location.

For the numpty; does the tweeter feed mean tapping into the tweeters mounted in the door mirrors? If so is the a wiring logic? I understand there is parrellel and series to choose between both have merits and one could damage the HU. Havent a clue what option to go for to get best sound and not knacker the HU.
Are there a speaker selection suitable for the missing door speaker (Halfords prefably as I get trade;) ), wattage, size etc.
For info I have the basic six speaker set up
Cheers

I do English as well :o

To keep my install simple so that i could pull it out quickly i went for a 2 way component setup and just rewired the footwell and tweeters leaving all the stock wiring in place and untouched. You could go 3 way and add a mid if you really wanted but i kept my install simple.

We're lucky in the Z4 as the footwell speakers are 6.5" and most BMW's before were 5.25", when amped they can produde some good sound.

I plan to keep the HU but would be interested in adding speakers to the doors.
Would i need to rewire the footwell and tweeters and if so what wiring schedule should I follow?
I take it the door speaker would have a separate run to the headunit? and if so attached/spliced where?
I beginning to feel I should attempt this :D
Engines/ mechy bits no probs, electrickery big issues
