Speaker intermittent problem, anyone help?

So I noticed that the left hand front speaker wasnt working the other day. Thought I had blown it, as Ive been listening to it fairly loud on the way to work with the roof down on the motorway  However, it was working again the day after. The day after that, it wasnt again. I adjusted the balance from dead centre and it instantly started working again. Its done it a few times since, and has me a bit perplexed. Its not a major worry as it always starts working again as soon as the balance is adjusted... Anyone had the problem before? Any ideas?!?!? :|

sounds like a break in the wiring to me, you might have to pull it out and take a look, but the break could be anywhere from the stereo to the speaker, i'm sure someone on here can give you a good place to start.

Had this problem in my 3 series. Got worse over time. Have this problem in the zed when I turn the volume too loud.

BMW wiring for stereos isn't great. My mates 120d M Sport has the same issue, and it's an 09 plate :(

If you find a cure, please share!! :)

Yeah, I thought that but then its ultra unlikely that the circuit would be made good again the same instant that the balance was adjusted, no?

adjusting the balance would increase the power to the side that you adjust to, making it easier for the signal to jump a tiny break in the wiring. providing a temp fix. :( i do strongly suspect bad wiring though, possibly at the connectors. maybe a rough install caused early damage.

Yeah, could be, could be... Suppose the best start would be attack the connections with Deoxit. Think my old mans got some I can steal :P
