Speaker grills and sound deadening

I'm in the process of installing some 6x9 speakers in the cubby holes. I have cut a template to mount the speakers but before I go any further I have seen people install some sound deadening in the cubby hole space. Looking on Amazon there seems to be loads of different types and brands available, which one should I go for?

Secondly, on the OEM sub woofer grill, can you separate the grill and the plate behind it? From photos it looks like it's two pieces.

I've yet to buy the speakers as I've currently got an issue with PDC sensors and wheels in for refurbishment.

Used SilentCoat sound deadening / insulation on my doors and in the hardtop, recommended by a few other members and I'm happy with it :thumbsup:
 
I put a layer of dynamat then silent cote. You can get the original speaker plates from BMW and mount a 6.5" sub the same as the kick panel speakers.
 
doesn't matter really much. i just did it but the metal doesn't really resonate.
thing to do is block the holes to the rear/luggage room.

i had the storage option in the cubby holes but i cut away all of the excess plastic & glued some speaker cloth on the place. looks realy nice and the sound comes through it perfectly.
if i remind it i will make some pics tomorrow

How far are the speakers from the grill, did you have cut away until it cleared?

Another question, did you wire to the existing speakers?
I only have the 6 speaker system so intend to tap into the top ones behind the headrest. Not sure whether to keep them wired or disconnect them.

In stead of the existing speakers. Wiring Goes in the boot behind the carpet. You can always try but i think the 6x9 sound better then the midrange
 
I may knock up a little adapter to wire them both in and see what they sound like. That way it would be easy to disconnect the mids.
