I had an interesting experience with my 318ti and learned the hard way to stick with the BMW plugs. I've heard so many times now that you actually don't need to change your plugs... ever. They are designed to outlive the engine. Don't know if I exactly believe that. Anyway, with my 318ti I ended up putting the old plugs back in after my retardation (tried to put splitfire plugs in... big mistake, they aren't rated at the temps that BMW engines operate at) at 100,000 miles and the original plugs did great thru the 160,000 miles I got out of the vehicle before my x-wife blew the engine hot rodding it in Philly with her boyfriend she was cheating on me with while I was deployed. The timing chain snapping at 4500rpms pretty much killed it. In any case, the plugs never went bad and the performance was always the same in that car. I can only imagine that technology has even gotten better since 1997 when those plugs were made. My advice, based on my experience, would be If you wanna do anything, just clean the plugs you've got and check the gap and don't worry about replacing them unless they are giving you trouble.
