Spark Plugs: NGK BKR6EQUP (Platinum) or NKR6EIX (Iridium)

I've had my 3.0i 55 plate (M54 engine) for just under a year now and recently had the oil service done.

I was just looking through the previous receipts, I noticed on the full service receipt that was carried out at an Indy by the previous owner (Jan 2012), it only listed 4 spark plugs. That got me thinking was that a typo or were they not even changed back then???

Next service isn't due for sometime so have decided to change them myself and I am sticking with NKG but needed some advice on the following.

The OEM plugs are the 4 prong platinum type (BKR6EQUP) but when you go to the NKG website they list the upgrade as the single prong Iridium type (BKR6EIX - 11). I know the 4 prongs over single prong do not make a damm bit of difference as only one prong delivers the actual spark but from what I have read, Iridium delivers a better spark over Platinum and is more durable. Having looked at a few online stockist, the Iridium set of 6 doesn't even cost that much more.

I wanted to know if anyone has fitted the NKG Iridium plugs over NKG Platinum plugs and when their views were.

Thanks,

Billy

Iridium do give a stronger spark, but in reality you wont feel any benefit or performance gain from fitting them..

I used to have a Shyline running a fair amount of boost, and with platinum plugs in the intake into the cylinder would effectively snuff out the spark,Irdiums were the only option and the car worked fine after that.

I've used the Iridiums for a couple of years now, and have been very happy with them. So, why not?

Thanks guys.

Just wanted to confirm the Iridium plugs didn't have any negative affects and as a set of 6 only cost a fiver more than the Platinum's, might as well fit them.

Cheers,

Billy
