Spark plug change 3.0 M54

Hi guys,

Had the day off today so thought i would change the spark plugs. For ref i bought the NGK BKR6EQUP £37 all in from ebay.

Changed the plugs all fine, but then when i started the car it stalled after 1-2 seconds. Started again, ran lumpy for about 5 seconds and then all seemed to be ok. Went for a drive for 5 mins and all OK. I'm hoping to get your thoughts on what the problem might have been?

The old plugs were dry but very coked up. They had been in there for nearly 50k miles.

was there any moisture in the spark plug tunnels?

are the gaps correct on the plugs?

were the threads clean and dry (both on the plugs and the block?
 
They were all very very clean and no moisture. Car has done 90k miles

I guess there may have been a bit of oil on the threads in the block, barely any if that.

Do you think when i tightened it would have seeped down?
 
There's no problem.

Old plugs do not "fire" as fast if you will, it happens quite often when fitting new ones, that the first one or two starts don't happen. The ECU isn't used to them (for want of a better word).

As long as it's running on all 6 now, and smooth as you like, I really wouldn't worry.
 
The engine is immaculate. Coils looks in perfect condition, clean and not brittle. I can't think of anything else!

then I wouldn't worry about it. If it's running perfectly now, and you've not got an engine light on for misfires etc, then it's probably just the sparks settling in.
If it does it again after 20 minutes or so of driving, it needs looking into, but if not you're as good as gold :)
 
Thanks guys, much appreciated!

One other thing of mention i also managed to align my airbox so that it now sits tightly against the rubber cold air feed pipe from the front grill (it had about a 10mm gap all round) Worth all z4 owners checking theirs to. :thumbsup:
