Oil catch can is an absolute must on any direct injection engine, you can also guage the health of your engine by the amount of crud it catches. I fitted one on my 35i and posted the process on here.

Is that catch can on the low or high pressure ventilation?

I didn't bother with a catch can on my 35i as only the high pressure side is easily available and that is only active when the car is on boost. The majority of the contamination is going to be passing back into the engine from the low pressure CCV and you need to butcher your valve cover to access that.
