Only have one key for my 2006 2.0i Sport. What are my options? Have tried a locksmith and he directed me to BMW, then a specialist car lock smith and he too said BMW only...true?
I only have the key the car came with (original BMW) - will this be enough for a stealer to get me another one?
Any advice on the subject? :(

A key specialist might be able to do you one, I think that key from BMW are around £200 (coded)....

Someone else will know for sure

why pay a specialist .... scally scum will be able to do it for you in 5 mins flat .... might cost you the car tho :D

BMW just needs your VIN and proof of ownership to get you a new key... and a substantial sum of money. Word is coded key blanks can be sourced and a locksmith can rout the key channels, but I haven't seen any first hand accounts of this actually working.

For peace of mind, I just paid up for a key from the dealer, and am very careful to not misplace the keys.

FWIW, you can only mate 6 extra keys to your car, then the EWS module runs out of memory. To mate another key after that, the module needs to be replaced. It's cheaper than a new key so not that big a deal, but it involves a special coding process so that it interfaces properly with your current DME module.

Scally Scum, thats not true, nor is it nice! I live in Merseyside, so unless you have definate evidence of personally being given keys from "scally scum" i take great offence.
