Spacers

So I have a standard Z4M coupe on 224's. I have eibach pro springs on and think the next thing to do is sort the wheels in the arches.

It has taken me a while to convince myself to do this as I don't want to rub at all anywhere and most importantly the car has to drive well. I have now convinced myself it will not affect the handling moving the track by the small amounts mentioned below.

I have however been scanning through all the old threads to get how much people have "spaced" the wheels but would like some advice I am not interpreting.

At the moment I believe the concencus is 5mm at the back and 12mm at the front. :?


Any advice on this and the best place to get hubcentric spacers much appreciated. :thumbsup:
 
Doubt you will get 5mm hubcentric spacers
Here's the best pic i have my pals ZMC running 4 x 12mm spacers , bearing in mind 224s are already staggered in both offset & widths of 8j to 9j

It's long gone now but was on OEM springs & OEM M sized rubber with no chaffing of the arches even on spirited runs

Thanks for this and I don't know how I missed it on my search :(

It looks as if 10mm at the back and 12mm at the front is okay on eibach springs.

Will go for it I think and see how it goes. :thumbsup:

Hi, I'm the new owner of that car!

It does rub a small amount on the front over heavy dips in the road, but yeah generally it's fine :thumbsup:

I would never run a 10mm heliocentric spacer I think they are DANGEROUS!!
There just cant be enough material. The center of the hub sticks out so you have a recess for it. You then have a spigot sticking out for the wheel to fit on. These are the same size and the recess needs to be 9mm deep for the hub spigot to fit in leaving you with 1mm wall thickness!! I wouldn't use them.

Thanks for explaining why they are dangerous. Someone else on here said not to use them but gave no reason. So are 12mm spacers safe on you opinion with 3mm of material?
 
as above, theres so many threads on forums with 10mm the centre flange shearing off. 12mm is the least i'd be comfortable using.

They do do 5mm shims which are bmw specific which fit around the existing flange & Have the same exact bolt pattern which are also pretty good. I got some off Venom motorsport recently for around £20
 
Guys have a look at the design of some decent 10mm spacers, there's a decent sized chamfer in that zone to give a reasonable thickness of material :thumbsup:

Good to hear its a forum car :thumbsup: my pal Mark who owned it came on a good few runs out & never mentioned any rub :? very often its literally mm that make the difference which can be new tyres on 8mm as opposed to used on 4mm
Have you had the wheel off to check where it actually catches ? Its usually the smaller of the removable hatches in the liner that doesn't follow the shape of the arch .

I've had 10mm H&R spacers on the front of mine, no problem at all.

From memory exodus has been running 10mm H&Rs all round for a number of years with no problems.
