Source of after-market Silencer clamps?

My Z4M Roadster was inspected by the local BMW dealership at the weekend.

They reported an advisory that the silencer clamps were slightly "cracked and corroded", although the silencer itself is fine. They said that the clamps weren't available separately from BMW, and that the only solution would be to replace the whole silencer at a cost of circa £500 (although, to be fair, they said that this would be overkill and they weren't suggesting it). However, they also said that there might be third party clamps (possibly made of titanium?) available.

I've emailed them and asked for details, but I'm still waiting for a response.

The only brackets/clamps that I can find are part number 18201401797, but these are made of rubber, so wouldn't be described as "corroded" (and couldn't be replaced with titanium), would they?

Does anybody know what they might be talking about and/or have a source for the after-market clamps?

Fitted mine the other week when I swapped the rear boxes. 2dogs also fitted recently. Both ours came from a uk supplier though i6 something or other from eBay.
 
Yes I've had from the dealer too. We'll have to replace the whole exhaust sir. Luckily you don't have to do that just because of the shoddy design. Many people use Peugeot exhaust clamps (I forget which ones) which work, but don't look great. If the look bothers you get these

There were some titainium ones made out there, not sure if the guy is still doing them, look on the m3 forums.
 
I used this item as well and it worked really well. Before you get fitted just check the lutes on the actual exhaust as they can be holed due to vibration and contamination from the steel clamps. Mine needed a wee bit of weld applied and reshape S to be perfect again.

£25 is a lot better than £500. :thumbsup:

They were stainless, but about 4 times the price from memory.

The £25 ones do the job just as well.

I had a set of the ti ones on my last m3, they were slightly more expensive at a £120 or so from recollection. The guy stopped making them in 2013 though, can dig out his email if anyone wants.

but at £25 I'll take the stainless ones now I think!
 
Just echoing everyone else: I have these too and they work perfectly, think I was only charged £50 to get them fitted. Those original clamps will eventually corrode on everyone's Z4M.
 
bought cast ones from Germany off ebay with stainless set bolts... They fitted and worked spot on. Just make sure the cup on the exhaust is still in good condition.

I'm still at a loss to see why these flanges fail on the pipes sometimes.
 
Heat.

The pipe is forever expanding and contracting, most likely not at the same rate as the clamps. This leads to fatigue and cracking before failure. The rust just makes it weaker and more susceptible.

I'm talking about the stainless steel pipes, not the iron brackets.
