Sound system upgrade.

Apologies in advance if this has been covered already but I'm a hifi nut and want to improve the sound in my 2007 2.0i e85. I have the Business system fitted and wonder if anyone has upgraded from this, what did you replace it with, what speakers have you fitted and what were the issues if any? I predominantly use Spotify from my phone but do have a large CD collection, which I much prefer for sound quality... Thoughts or suggestions much appreciated.

I did it but I had the full 12 speaker system the one with 4 woofers.

It cost me a fortune. I kept OEM speakers. I had to buy a £600 amp, 2-3 other bits and bobs a £200-£300 pioneer head unit to make it worthwhile and then fuill new wiring and about £600 in labour. Cost me about £2K and that was all just to get bluetooth really.

I'd say forget it. The amp BMW uses makes it a complete pain.

It can all be done fairly simply..upgrading the speakers is a good start and fairly simple on the e85 with the exception of the rears which involve stripping out the centre console..you could then add in an amp if required, and some kind of sub..I wint for a an underseat sub with built in amp to save running a seperate amp just for the sub..link to my install here albeit on an e89 but bar the ease of installing the rear speakers is pretty much the same on the e85..mine was done on a budget and came in under £400 https://z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=1785751#p1785751

Just read your write up at the link. Superb and well detailed, thank you.... I kinda had a feeling that it was the oem speakers that let this system down so that's the route I shall go down. 👍

The OEM speakers are fine it's just the are very hard to drive. Even my £600 amp struggles to power them past 30 on the dial. It cuts out.
