As above. You need the bit that comes off the induction system.

Here's mine when I changed that pipework that was split:

I assume it's nearly the same as the my existing part but has the extra hole on the side to take the sound gen?

That looks correct mate. Bit expensive though. Pretty sure I paid about £20 for mine from a BMW dealer.
 
I fitted one to a 2003 2.2 and loved it.

Got all my parts from a main dealer and it cost over £120 so even with the extra part needed you've still got a great deal.
 
Where are you based? maybe you could take a look at someone else's zed that's got this fitted already.
I would be more than welcome for you to take a peek at mine .
I have also replaced 2 of those rubber pipes on both mine and my sons Zeds so may be able to offer some advice on replacement.
In Barnsley and chesterfield area if that would help :thumbsup:

That's very kind, but unfortunately I'm up in Edinburgh.

I managed to buy the rubber boot direct from BMW. I'm a privilege club member so got 20% off it. £22.50 in total :). It goes to show that ebay isn't always cheaper than going straight to the dealership itself!

I'm doing for a visit with Durham Dave this weekend so might get him to fit it also when I'm there.

Worth checking to see if the sound pipe still has both peices of foam or it might surprise you.

I know some have removed both peices but I thought it was too much so cut the firewall one in half and left the one nearest the sound generator as it was.

There's definitely one at the firewall end. I've not taken it apart yet to see if there's still one at the other end

Fitted mine to my 2.5i last week. Simple job, took half hour. Gives a great sound in the cockpit.
The exhaust mod gives the sound to the great unwashed as you fly by BRRRRRRUUUUUMMMMMM!!! :driving: :rofl:
To have an exhaust mod that you can hear in the cockpit would possibly drone you to death if you go for a loud one. :!:
Oh, and don't forget to take both pieces of foam out and eat them so they can't be put back in.
Some say it's too loud with both pieces out but I love the sound of the straight six, I'd have the engine in the passenger seat if I could so I could smell and hear it :D
 
It's in! Foam still in tact currently though while I see how I like it.

So far the noise is a bit deeper and you get an amazing turbo-esque whine in second around 5k.

Think a foam will have to come out next as a little bit more noise would be good :)
