Sorting out wheel arch rust

Morning

Been having a read as I am getting bouts of rust on my wheel arches. Given age of the car not unsurprised. My thoughts are dirt/grime has lodged itself between the panels and wheel arch liners and it remaining damp.

Is it a complicated job to remove all liners and clean up and reseat everything without taking off the panels? Or should the full lot come off?

Anyone have any experience, am I likely to solve the problem or should I resign myself to ongoing issues.

Any other suggested remedies?

Cars a keeper so need to solve this longer term, despite the wife saying it needs to go. Help me save my car from both of them

I pulled my rear liners out a couple of days ago. It was fairly straightforward with the wheels off. There are many and various fasteners to hold it on, but none broke and it went back together with a little bit of fiddling.

Note, the plastic fasteners at the rear of the arch are the type where you need to pull the centre plastic pin out first (e.g with a screwdriver), then pull the rest of the fastener out. I used trim removal tools like this: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/11132412...h1KJtQ_ivssa0pW42u-t3ziBnWy97sNBoCB4oQAvD_BwE

Also remember that on a cold day these liners are quite stiff so heat makes them more easy to get in and out. Once out leave them in the sun....if you are lucky enough to have any

Is the plastic arch liner sealed in anyway to the metal arches?

Of just a case of clearning out the gunk?

Liners aren't sealed to the arches. It's a pretty simple job removing them with the wheels out the way. I had some rust bubbles on the front arches last year. I removed the liners and cleaned up the area then applied kurust then hammerite. Once all back together it went to the body shop for a tidy up on the outside. Lasted about 6 months until the bubbles started again. Just before xmas I fitted new wings to it and sent it to the body shop again. Hopefully that's it done with now.
