Sorry another CSL wheel question

Hi All,
I purchased a Z4MR last September after 10 years of TVR ownership and I am loving every minute of it. I am looking at fitting 19" CSL wheels and I have searched back through the forum for advice, however, its a bit of a minefield. Please could I have some advice on the following:
Genuine CSL's - what is a ball park figure and any recommendations on where to buy them. What size wheels and tyres and what are the best tyres to fit?
Replica CSL's - same questions as above please.
Many thanks for your time.

I picked mine up last October for £1k with 6mm Falken 452's. They needed a refurb which cost £220 as they were in black and chipped.

There was another set at the time for £1,100 with MPSS with 3mm, but again not 100% but in silver and requiring new tyres soon.

Just be careful you get CSL's an no CS's which people try and pass of as CSL's

Think link might also be helpful to confirm genuine wheels.

For new CSL's expect to pay just under £2K unless you get discount, I got 10% from Bridgewater BMW, Taunton, I didn't need a CSL chassis number either as you may do at other dealers, I've put Michelin PSS on 235/35/ZR19 on the front with 12mm spacers and 265/30/ZR19 on the back, they were about £800 ish from where my neighbour works, a good price I think, I sold my old CSL's with good tyres for £1200, sorry can't help with rep prices

Thanks both for your responses. Darrren - I am sorry but I am a wheel virgin so forgive the questions, do the genuine 19" CSL alloys come in one size for the Z4MR and if so could you tell me the sizes and part numbers if possible. Also, with regard to spacers I assume these are available from BMW as well and are they just required on the front wheels?

There is only one true size for each wheel. As I said before some try and pass 8" fronts off as CSL when they need to be 8.5"

Sizes are

8,5x19 front 235/35R19 offset ET 44 12,62kg

9,5x19 rear 265/30R19 offset ET 27 13,79kg

not sure on part numbers but style is 163.

Boyo,

Hi,

I recently sold my Z4MC on the original wheels and still have the CSLs I had on it. They are genuine BMW CSLs (not CS) bought new 2 years ago. They are fitted with Michelin Pilot Super Sport tyres . The car only did around 2k miles with the wheels fitted (2nd car). One wheel has a very small stone chip mark otherwise they are immaculate. The tyres have negligible wear. I don't have any photos but will take some if you are interested. The wheels cost me £1,700 and the tyres £800. I am looking for £1,800 for the set plus a share of freight. (I live in Shetland so probably talking around £50.

Kind regards,

John

You can get your spacers from anywhere, google BMW hub centric wheel spacers, I think they're about £50 and you just need to put them on the front, and only then if you want the wheel to be flush with the wheel arch, it not then you don't need them

Depending on what you are after the CS wheel package could be considered more desirable. It runs a slightly higher profile than the CSL spec. CS/CSL rears are identical (same part number in real oem), fronts as stated are 1/2" narrower at 8" (same as OEM z4 spec). These run 225/40 and 255/35 as opposed to 235/35 and 265/30 for CSL (although you can safely fit that spec to CS rims if desired). OEM Z4 is 225/45 & 255/40 on 18". If you're driving is more road focused than track then the CS option is worth considering IMO.
Z4M (224) offsets
Front wheel 18 X 8 ET42
Rear wheel 18 x 9 ET30

Front CS: 19x8 ET47
Front CSL: 19x8.5 ET44
Rears both: 19x9.5 ET27

overall tyre diameter with both OEM and CS spec is 661mm
with CSL spec it decreases to 642mm a -2.87% difference

Set here for £1250 Ono with decent tyres and good condition apparently :)

Personally if I'm spending over £1k on them they are going to be brand spankers. I also don't want anyone else's used tyres either so to me they have zero value.

255/35 & 225/40 18 comes out at 636/7 not 661, difference is 1%

True for that size, but standard fitment for Z4m 18's are 225/45, 255/40 not 225/40, 255/35 as you are calculating.

Many thanks to everyone who has responded. Armed with the correct facts I can now seek out the best deal on a set of new OEM's. :D
