SORN ? No win situation ?

No, I only took it out once more on local roads so pretty safe from that point. But I never saw anywhere on line that the SORN was immediate as I thought everything was month based. Obviously wrong then …

Which sum's up precisely my annoyance with how the system is right now , it should & could be so simple yet it isn't :?
They have put so much time & cash ( their time , our cash  ) into changing over to a new system yet its almost deliberately vague & most definitely operated in their favour & let's not even discuss the part where you can't sell a car with tax still running :x

Mine was taxed for November this year all because of a 20 minute journey on the 1st from the ferry home. :headbang:

Not worth the risk as I don't know what checks are done at the port.

Was hoping to get a run or two out in it though, but the weather was shite anytime I could have driven it :headbang:

If you declare it SORN for January on 31st December they will most likely take the money out of your account for January and then refund it later in the month.
I applied approx. 5 days before month end and that's what they did with mine back in October.

But is it still Ok to drive those last 5 days ? They have been paid for after all

I'd of thought so because you've already paid for that full month. They return in months not days.

Nope!

There is no option to put a SORN date in, so if you complee your SORN application on the 25th of a month it is valid with immediate effect.

Might help:

DVLA will cancel your Direct Debit when you tell them your vehicle’s been:

sold or transferred
scrapped at an automated treatment facility
exported
taken off the road and you’ve made a SORN (Statutory Off Road Notification)
given an exempt duty tax class
You’ll automatically get a vehicle tax refund for any full months remaining. It will take 4 to 6 weeks for you to get the refund.

If another payment is taken before your Direct Debit is cancelled, you’ll be automatically refunded within 10 days.

Not disagreeing with the warped logic here, but where does it then say that it is immediately, and not at the end of the month you have paid for?

Just curious if you were stopped, and you had paid to the end of the month, what would be their case as such?
