Sore Newbie Says Hi

Hi, I'm a potential Newbie........... :D

Last Sunday I wrote off my TVR on he way to deliver my Mother's Day Gift. Basically, somebody misjudged their speed coming around a tight blind corner (waterworks bend in Staffordshire) and hit me head on. After being cut out of my beloved vehicle and whisked off to Hospital under blues and twos; I was laer released with 12 stitches in my head and a very very sore battered and bruised body.

Anyway, it made me think, maybe I should steer clear of cars that have no air bags and threaten to kill you at every opportunity! Fantastic cars though. So, I've decided to go all sensible and buy a sports car with air bags - yep, a Z4.

I've decided on a Z4 roadster 2.5 around a 2006 model. What do you think of my potential choice? Don't want to spend too much money on this car because I only need to use it once a week for work purposes and the rest will be just enjoyment, so tying up a lot of money in a car that is used sporadically cannot be justified - a lesson I learnt with the TVR.

John

I would go for the 3.0 , not much harder on fuel but more go! and I think they have more extras than standard but being a newbie myself don't mind being corrected :driving:

Hi John, welcome. Sorry about your 'incident' and glad you're ok.
Good choice of replacement car!
I've not owned an older model but the guys will be here to give some good advice soon.
Good luck with the search.

Hi John,

That was you! Saw the mess being cleared up. Glad to hear you are OK.

Tight corner, seen it messed up a few times.

Can't go wrong with a zed. Everyone will have their own opinions of what you have to have.
It's just fettling and posturing as we all drive and love (almost all) Zeds.

mine's a 3.0, and the others are correct........

Welcome, you have made an excellent decision.

Yep - the 3.0 is the one to have. No worse on fuel and a bit more go.

Extras as standard on the 3.0 included fully automatic roof and elec memory seats.

2006 is facelift territory. A 2.5si is very similar performance to the pre facelift 3.0i

What sort of budget, if its not rude.

Yup, that was me! Funny how people automatically assume you're to blame because you drive a sports car! Apparently the guy who hit me was a criminal on the run. My TVR was fully restored a couple of years ago; really hard to replace. Very very fast and sounded great - just need to take the sensible path now and buy a car with some protection. 2.5 or 3.0 litre, obviously running costs need to be considered. Are all roof's on Z4's fully automatic or do they differ, if so, how?

Looking for a facelift model really. 2.5 si? What is the difference between si and 3.0i?

After TVR definitely hang out for the 3.0 , recently described on 5th Gear as "possibly one of THE best engine's ever made " 8)
A great mix of performance & economy

Sorry, budget, around £8000 need to kerb my spending on my passion after the TVR! TVR - wallet buster!!!!!!!!!!

The 'SI' engines are just the evolutions of the pre-facelift 2.5 and 3.0. So yes, there is a 3.0si, which is ideally the one to have if you're not going ///M.

30 more hp.

Sorry but not correct. The facelift 6 cylinder engines are N52 valvetronic engines, and share nothing with the pre facelift M54 engines.
