This summarises a number of posts over a period of about a month that I made on another forum, but thought that it might be of interest to some people here...

About a month ago, I was reading about the new Sonax QD over on Detailing World

From the tests one of the pro detailers had done it looked very impressive and I decided to give it a try. Amazon UK had it at around £20 (inc delivery) but I ordered via Amazon.de which worked out much cheaper - two bottles came in at £30 (inc delivery)

Once delivered, I wanted to try it out and as I was washing the F20...

The spray head on the Sonax bottle I tried wasn't the best and dispensed the QD as a jet rather than a mist so I decanted some into one of my small spray bottles and was good to go. It spread nicely with the smell of coconut mentioned in the DW review and buffed easily to quite a nice shine, perhaps not quite as wet and glossy looking as my normal QD (Meguiars Ultimate Quik Detailer) but it looked nice nontheless

Once buffed, I left it for a while then squirted some water on it with the hose and it beaded/ran off very nicely. As it was just a test, I only used it on the bonnet of the F20 so a comparison between the QD treated and untreated panels would be easy.

It seemed to last well on the bonnet and was still beading nicely after a couple of weeks but, with my little head-banging accident and then the icy weather, all thoughts of keeping track of progress went out of the window and I didn't really keep an eye on how it was working. Then, this morning, I washed the F20 again, nothing fancy just a quick rinse off / wash / rise again job - it's a lease car and it's Cindy's daily driver so as soon as it's washed, it gets filthy again and, as a result, I try to avoid getting too anal about keeping it clean

When I finished the final rinse with the hose, water was spread over all the other panels like an oil slick with no sign of beading, but I was amazed to see the bonnet looking like this

This car is not pampered, it's driven every day, parked outside on the drive, had no wax, sealants, glazes etc. applied previously and, since I applied the Sonax QD, it's been regularly covered in road spray and encrusted in salt

With that in mind, this beading is all down to the Sonax that was applied just under 4 weeks ago - personally I find that very impressive durability for a QD
