Hey guys, got a question, and it's not zed related im afraid, but i've been to the mini2 forum and got no help, so i thought i'd ask my friendly zed owners. Here it is:

Girlfriend went down south and bought a Mini Cooper from an independent garage. She test drive it etc (i unfortunately didn't). All payment went through and she drove it away. Now im not with her or havent heard this for myself, but she thinks there is a 'gurgling' sound coming from the car when she puts her foot on the clutch. Does this sound to you lot like a clutch is going? and she bought it today, so where does she stand with regards to a refund or anything. It went through an MOT this morning before she picked it up, but that showed nothing.

Any help would be magic!

Cheers,,

Mike

Most garages give you a period of grace, say 3 or 4 days when you can return a car to them if there is a fault or if you just changed your mind. Best to check with this particular garage as to whether they do this or not because afaik it's not actually a legal requirement.

You could call up anonymously and ask I guess or just read over the small print in your girlfriend's paperwork for the car that she got from the dealer - see if it mentions anything in there.

If there is a clear fault with the car and the garage is in any way decent they should offer to rectify the problem for you i'd say. Best thing to do is go speak to them.

if you have to get heavy with them they are obliged to 'repair, refund or replace' under the consumer goods act.

these guys are really really helpful about advising you on your rights

the bit that will interest you, quoting from the website:

When buying from a dealer, the law says a car must be:
"Of satisfactory quality. It must meet the standard a reasonable person would regard as acceptable, bearing in mind the way it was described, how much it cost, the age and the mileage on the vehicle. Amongst other things, this covers the appearance and finish of the car, its safety and its durability. The car must be free from defects, except when they were pointed out to you by the seller."
