Sorry for the quality (or lack of) post still learning how to use the forum.

I have poly bushed the lower front suspension. Non run flat tyres and an Ultra Racing strut brace sorted the tram lining.

Inside I have fitted the cruise control which is a great easy fix.

The audio has been totally changed. Hertz 3 ways in the doors (Hertz tweeter and Mid range) 5" woofers in the kick panels.

Hertz 12" sub in the boot. Alpine head unit with DAB, 6 Disk auto changer, IPod.

Hertz power amp runs the front 3 ways and the sub whilst the head unit runs the 6x9 3 way hertz elliptical speakers fitted behind the seats.

Audio fitted by a company in Sheffield.

Never understood why people do that.

You don't go to a concert and stand with your back to the stage, unless your a bit odd.

For info the car has component 3 ways fitted in the front doors and the foot well. The fader is biased towards the front. Extensive listening was done with several types and make of speaker. As I am sure you are aware the dynamics of the sound change dramatically depending on the position of the hood.

I tried different subs and different speakers behind the drivers seat. I am well aware that treble is directional and bass is not.

The component speakers in the doors are excellent and give quality sound. I agree the 3 way elliptical speakers are a compromise.

I have found that having a the fader biased towards the front and delay set on the drivers side, the sound is a lot better.

I would say that the OEM stock is poor at best. Sound is very individual and what one person may think is the dogs another may think is awful.

If you don't want a sub in the boot space then fitting them in the cubby holes works to some extent but will not give the quality.

In conclusion the Z4 is a very difficult environment to get a really good sound. The rear panel does not lend itself to fitting speakers that will give good low frequency response. Hence why a sub was used.

I'm amazed that anyone would bother fitting a CD changer these days. Didn't they go out of fashion in about 2004?

Aside from the excellent equipment choice, that power on the 6x9 could be used to bi-amp the front stage.

I am aware you should not advertise on the forums? So forgive if breaking rules!

I used Source Audio of Sheffield (paul)

This company lent me kit to go away with and try.... Excellent customer service. I have no association with them apart from being a customer.

Would I use them again? Yes - First class.

Cheap? - Probably not.


Budfox..... I have shed loads of CD's. Also it depends on what type of files you use on your IPod?

As NeilP has mentioned there are much more options available with the Hertz speakers. Currently I am running the Sub and front components off the Hertz Amp. The rears are powered from the Alpine Head unit. The plan is to add an additional amp (mono) to run the sub and then power the components & rears from their own amp. Bi amping could be another option.

Chiddy; The front component speakers are Hertz Hi Energy 6.5." These give excellent quality sound and good bass even without a sub. The tweeters were customised to fit the original BMW position. Likewise the Mids fit in the doors and Woofers in the kick panels. As a first step, the fronts improved over the OEM stuff by 200%.
