Some ownership/ newbie q's on z4m roadster please.

So been and had a look at a car today that while not perfect with age related stone chips, scuffs and other bits of cosmetic damage, and needing some tyres and rear pads, but it did strike me as honest and reflected in the price. At 72k on the clock, I wanted to ask some ownership questions to guage if this is a representative example?

When cold the initial 1st to 2nd gear change felt like there was lots of drive line shunt. This could have been me with my first ever gear change in one, but it did not seem present in the other gears, nor when warm. This usual?

The rev counter orange lights drop as the car warms, but does that last orange at 7500rpm stay illuminated even warm? If not, what is warm as the oil got to just under 100 on the dial?

Clutch life, what is normal/ to be expected, and what does a worn/ failing clutch feel like?

Front tyres, I've had lots of BMW's and they all wear the outside edge of the fronts, is this also the case on the z4m's

I understand that the m's dropped the run flat tyres, so I assume there is nothing bespoke about the STd 18" wheels, allowing me to swap them to others with little issue. I assume swapping to 19" does effect the handling much like the e46 owners say?

Between the seats there is a button to open up the cd changer and nav unit drives, but above this there looks like another button, the same.....what does this do?

Cheers,

Mark

The gear change is normal, you'll get used to it, if not do a search for CDv removal

The last amber light always stays on, when the temp is at 11 o clock position the car is fully warmed up

Yes.......There all like that, good gear oil and CDV removal helps..

Normal..

I havent really heard of anyone having a clutch through normal wear..Driver dependant i guess but 100K+ is feasible.

Front tyres, I've had lots of BMW's and they all wear the outside edge of the fronts, is this also the case on the z4m's

Yes,they do to a certain extent....As long as not excessive, its all good

Not so much the handling but lack of sidewall makes the ride a little more harsh, and with 19" you get a big arch gap..Factor in a spring change at a minimum

Between the seats there is a button to open up the cd changer and nav unit drives, but above this there looks like another button, the same.....what does this do?

Bugger all

Cheers,

Or a "Sprint booster chip" bout £200-300 fitted, gear response alot more aggressive and sharper, getting one fitted in two weeks

How does a chip sharpen the gear change/response on a manual car?

The dealer and I spent 5 mins trying to push that button. :D :D :D

All sounds normal, and. A serch on the cd things will commence.

whats that button look like?
:fuelfire:

It looks exactly like the button to acces all the cd changers between the seats, but it sits on top of the plastic above this area between the seets.

Last newbie question. When hot and idling I left it for the fans to come on and had the bonnet open to check that no oil leaks were visible now hot, and thought that the motor sounded a bit er "tappety". Bonnet closed it was very quiet, but open it was noticeable, but quite possibley normal....just curious. Could not identify if it was inlet or exhaust or even the fuel rail, other than top end. I seem to remember my old S50 engine sounding like, but worth asking just in case?

By your description it sounds like the manual release for the roof mechanism.

The rest you asked has already been covered and is all normal. You cannot underestimate how removing the CDV transforms the car. My 2nd one which is up for sale had this done already and it drives so much better than my first one did with it.
