Some basic audio Qs

This is a question not an answer so I didn't think it should go in the how to section

I am looking at a coupe that only has the basic audio set up. I understand that this is woofers in the footwell, grills where the mids should go in the doors, tweeters where the door mirror mounts. Then behind your head is combined mid/treble unit and "storage" bins.

I don't want to go mad with this so was thinking, add mids in the doors, add woofers or subs in the cubbies behind the seats. Driven by a decent, but not silly amp.

Does the basic head unit have a "pre-out" to go to a separate amp? What's the difference between woofers and subs for the rear? I don't want complex crossovers and equalisers if not headed.

Just looking for a decent balanced sound that will go loud enough when I am in the mood.

Car is VERY early in the coupe production run btw, in case this might make a difference

I can do basic wiring but nothing too complex please

I did a component swap with new 6.5" in the footwells, mids in the doors and new tweeters. I fitted an amp in the boot and all works fine with the OE head unit.Stage 2 is to fit subs in the back cubby holes and maybe change the head unit for one with a USB socket for my music. I didn't fit it myself,I had it done, but it sounds tons better.

Can anyone help further here? Does this simply mean plugging in and routing relevant cables, or does this involve splicing soldering etc

Sorry if this is coming across as sounding really picky.

And what sort of stuff did you have installed? Approx cost, if you don't mind posting?

Thanks

Well...
There are no pre-outs on the HU but you can purchase some nifty RCA converters that will convert the hi into RCA, then link that to an amp. they can cost anywhere from £15 at halfrauds to £300 from caraudiosecurity.

There's a chap on here selling the speaker for the cubbys if I'm correct; or you can simply splice into the door with some mids and by a class-D mono amp some decent 6.5" woofers (JL 6w3) for the cubbys and use the above RAC option to feed them. there is a boss equiliser that does what I've described for as little as £40. If you amp everything, you will need crossovers and that's when things get complicated.

I have a thread that goes into way too much detail that you need if you search '06 coupe ice upgrade; incase you're wondering how far you can go with it.
