*SOLD*: Bcables DCAN cable & software (Fault codes etc)

I've been after something like this for a while.

Does this do every Carly does? Can it run on a mac?

Cheers,
Greg

Hi Greg,

I would guess it does everything and more than Carly does as this is the BMW software - but I couldn't be sure.

It might run on a mac via a Windows 10 virtual machine, the cable is only USB connection to computer. I didn't try that though, just installed on my wife's laptop which is Windows OS. I'd check with BCABLES directly about that.

For those asking, technically yes they (the cable) can do everything Carly can, although you would have to check exact compatibility with your car. The D Can (Silver) cable has K+D Can via a small switch on the obd2 plug.

NO - it won't run on a Mac, not directly at least. You could either use Bootcamp and setup a windows partition OR , use VirtualBox (free) or Parallels Desktop / VMWare Fusion (paid) to create a windows virtual machine. I recommend creating and using a Virtual Machine with virtualbox (https://www.virtualbox.org/wiki/Downloads) You'll need to obtain a windows cd or ISO image in order to install windows though.

PS: I'm obv not the seller, but I DO have a K+D Can cable, which I use via a Virtual Machine (although I do also have a windows laptop specifically for car stuff, but occasionally I will use my Macbook)

I's also worth noting, INPA / NCSExpert etc are NOT as easy as Carly. Carly has a specific GUI, specifically for coding... where as these apps require some more knowledge to find your way about the software.

Thanks IamOrion, great explanation! I'm afraid I don't pay commission though haha  I totally agree NCS Expert is not for the faint hearted, I never ended up using it. I did however use SSS Progman (included in this CD) which is less powerful than NCS but I found perfectly adequate and much more user friendly for coding features/options.

Let me know if you're still interested Greg

Thanks for all the info! The software cd - is the license not just for a single use/user?

That's a grey area - since really, BMCables shouldn't even be providing (let alone charging to download) that software. So you'll be fine. AFAIK none require a key or code of any sorts. ISTA, NCSExpert & INPA don't for sure

I didn't use a license key when I installed so I do not think it's single user etc install was very straightforward, just click and button and leave it to it.
