With my recent purchase of a set of Cades Tyrus 19" alloys, I have decided to sell my alloys.

These are approx 8 months old, but are like new. I have never let a wheel gun go near them, and have taken every care to prevent them picking up marks. No kerbing of any kind.

The wheels are River R-3, finished in Hyper Silver in a staggered setup. Fronts are 8.5" wide with ET38 and shod in nearly new Uniroyal Rainsport 3 tyres in 235 35 19 size

Rears are 9.5" wide with ET43 and wearing some used Avon ZZ3 rubber in 265 30 19 size (were from my previous SLK)

Finished with BMW style centre caps.

They have a motorsport style look to the pattern, but are different enough to everything else out there to be unique.

£600 - No offers.

I would have to agree with you !

But fancy a change. Lifes too short to commit to one wheel design for life !

Mmmmm, shame I have to post this. After initially thinking I'd got a good deal, it is apparently NOT the case. Now had the wheels/tyres for just over 2 weeks. Had them put on and instantly felt vibration and movement to left and right through steering wheel which shook violently at speeds over 60mph! Thought it was road camber or they needed 'bedding in' for a few hundred miles. Vibration through accelerator pedal and judder on steering wheel if I braked or sped up to 70mph plus! Assured when bought that they were in perfect condition AND balanced correctly. NOT THE CASE. I finally took the car to my local ATS today and the news was not good. All 4 wheels were re balanced and ALL were well out! Old weights removed and replaced/balanced properly. EVERY wheel was wrongly balanced by a very wide margin. I was also informed that it was HIGHLY likely that the nearside front wheel was buckled! I was told by the seller that he ran 32psi in the fronts and 35psi in the rears. When checked, 27 in the fronts, 30 in offside rear and 28 in nearside! You are a Z4 Forum Member and I expected better.

:o

I had a buckled 19'' front alloy and it ran fine. Sure, there was some quite pronounced vibration at speed, but it held air and felt ok to drive.

This is the risk with buying 2nd hand alloys, unfortunately.

My advice would be to punt them on ebay as people pay silly money for stuff on there.

Do they run alright now that they've been re-balanced?
They actually do run better than before the re-balance but STILL not 100%. Still issues at 70mph plus, albeit on a lesser scale. Just annoyed that my replaced 108's and run flats (sold yesterday) were smooth as silk and dead straight even over 100!

You're presuming the seller knew they were unbalanced, they may have been perfectly fine on his car! Why people pay such high money for used wheels is crazy..! In the case of CSL wheels they could be 13 years old and have had 200k plus miles under them....it's bizarre. I'd much rather buy a new CMWheel than a used OEM wheel all day long....

Er, no! Wheels are balanced off the car. It makes no difference to what car you put them on. Wheels are not balanced differently for different cars! They are either balanced correctly or they aren't. I had all 4 wheels re-balanced after putting them on my car as there were problems with ride quality, steering wheel shudder/vibration and vibration through both steering wheel and brake pedal under braking reasonably heavy ie, coming off motorway down a slip road. Anyway, I have come to the conclusion that because one of the front tyres hasn't been wearing evenly (scuffing on outer edge) that the wheel(s) may have slight buckling due to perhaps kerbing or some other form of 'accident'.

Pretty sure that this is the same as me. Think this has been a learning curve for me as regards second hand wheels and tyres. Such a shame as they do look so good on the car. Ah well, will know better next time I suppose

Apologies for taking so long to reply to this, there are a number of reasons for this, but I don't think sharing them will help in anyway.

First and foremost, I can only apologise for the experience you have had. I can hand on my heart say that I did not know of any of these issues, and am completely baffled how from taking a set of wheels off my car (which i did myself) to putting them into my parents garage, to finding their way onto your car, that all these issues somehow came about. I can say without a shadow of doubt that the wheels ran perfectly true, and I would rather not admit any particular speeds on this forum, but say that I never had any balancing issues at any speed whatsoever.

Can I ask who fitted the wheels to your car? Im just curious to know whether the vibration could be explained by a loose wheel ? I've never personally experienced this, but after reading your message, I spoke to a mechanic friend, and the tyre fitters who balanced your wheels, and both said that wheels which weren't tightened correctly could have been the original cause. They also said that over a period of time, any wheel could work itself out of balance due to potholes etc so it could explain partly what went wrong ?

With regards the difference in tyre pressures, a small amount (about 3psi) could be explained by the difference in ambient temperatures. As the colder weather comes in, the temperature drops, as does the pressures. The weather has been warm until recent, so last time i checked, they could have been correct, but again things have changed.

Not sure how to resolve the issue, besides offer to at least cover the cost of the balancing. I know this doesn't resolve the issue entirely, but not sure how this has happened. Surely you could tell the type of individual I am, from the way the wheels were safely stored, with card and bubble wrap, and the way i handled them carefully and placed them into your car, and the condition of them. The wheels have only been near my wheel brace, which has been carefully placed not to mark the wheel area surrounding the bolt, and always tightened by torque wrench, no air tools ever. Somehow I doubt ATS would have given the same care and consideration I have to the wheels. Did you actually see the wheel on the machine show an imbalance? Sorry to ask, but this is the same ATS chain that fitted a tyre marked inside the wrong way around on an alloy for me, only to say that it wasn't an issue and I could simply swap it to the other side !! The same ATS chain that replaced all 4 tyres on my wife Audi TT some years ago, saying it was 4WD and it would have problems. On my return, I took the car back to them and pointed out that the car was in fact a 2WD model, and that the tyres they took off had over 5mm still on them, so I wanted them back ! So forgive me for not trusting what they claim, but experience teaches you everything.

Not sure what else to say. The whole situation has left me genuinely upset, so I can only imagine how annoyed you must be feeling.

Speak to my friends, even my neighbours, and I hope they would say how honest and helpful a person I am.

Thanks for your reply. I am completely bewildered by my predicament. I cannot for the life of me understand what is wrong. I took the car to get the wheels fitted the day after I bought them. They were put on by a trusted, small independent garage that I use for servicing. I watched the guy from start to finish, including torqueing up each wheel. The problems previously disclosed were immediately apparent after driving off. Fast forward to ATS..... took the first front wheel off and placed on balancing machine, said it was 'out' by a fair margin, proceeded to remove all old weights, re-balanced with new weights (quite a lot of) and put wheel on back on the car, screwed in bolts and torqued up. Did exactly the same with other front tyre. I then 'test drove' the car on the tyre fitters instructions to see how it felt. This I did and reported that it felt a little better, but still not right. He then took off and re-balanced both rear wheels. I asked him to put 32psi in the fronts and 35psi in the rears. There are considerably more weights on ALL wheels now than when I bought them. In fairness, it is an improvement but still not right. :headbang: :headbang:
